Announcements for ALL Volunteers

  • Summer Camp Volunteering

    If you have daytime availability this week or next week, please reach out to Andrea. We are in the final stretch of summer camps and need extra hands! Join in for a few hours or full days!

  • ALL VOLUNTEERS

    Due to frequent maintenance issues and a high cost of repairs, we are LOCKING OUT the Resaw Bandsaw. It can be used ONLY by trained volunteers. A training will be offered this fall to ensure proper use of the machine and will be required for all Lead volunteers and Open Shop volunteers. Additionally, should the machine require maintenance due to user error and a lack of training, the cost of the repair will be the user's responsibility. Thank you for helping us keep our tools safe and operational!

  • New Volunteer Position: Community Outreach Coordinator

    This volunteer is the point person for all the events/festivals where we set up a table to interact with the community. You'll be the contact person between the community organization and the BCW. You'll organize volunteer shifts, plan and prep any projects that may be used at the event, and help prepare all items for pick up and return. We attend appx 1 event per month. If you're interested in helping with these events, please email Andrea.

  • Volunteer Fall Orientation

    All volunteer fall orientation is scheduled for Saturday, August 22nd from 1-4pm. Location TBD. Please save the date. This orientation is required.

  • Important Open Shop Update

    Starting August 1, volunteers must use the new form below to sign up for Open Shop. We will no longer use the old signup system. Until then you dont need to do anything, Just keep doing what your doing.


    If you lose this link, you can find it at the bottom of the new Open Shop page on our website. If your name does not appear on the form and you believe it should, please contact Brian. You may need to schedule a proficiency check before signing up.

    We are thrilled to introduce Anh, who moved to the Triangle community two years ago. She started taking classes at the BCW and quickly fell in love with woodworking. Now stepping into a volunteer role, Anh is excited to gain valuable skills working with power tools and give back to the community. Please join us in giving Anh a warm welcome to the team!

Weekly Teaching Tip

When teaching woodworking, build a culture of safety and accountability by consistently modeling the exact behavior you expect, including wearing all required PPE—like eye and ear protection—from the moment you enter the shop. Actively participate in cleanup alongside them to demonstrate that maintaining a clean, organized workspace is a core part of the craft, not an afterthought. Treating safety gear and shop maintenance as standard professional practices shows students that real woodworkers take pride in their environment and their personal safety.

NO TOOL TALKS

We are revamping our Tool Talk Curriculum, so we will not be doing Tool Talks this summer. Unless your class wants to learn something specific!

  • Starting this Fall - New Weekly Woodworking Workshop!

    Starting this fall, we'll be offering our Weekly Woodworking Workshop (WWW). This class follows the same proven curriculum we use in our youth program, but is adapted for adult learners. We're looking for volunteers to help teach, demonstrate techniques, and encourage students as they build projects.We're asking volunteers to sign up for one recurring Saturday each month instead of individual dates. Choose the Saturday group that works best for your schedule:

    1st Saturdays: Oct. 3, Nov. 7, Dec. 5

    2nd Saturdays: Oct. 10, Nov. 14, Dec. 12

    3rd Saturdays: Sept. 19, Oct. 17, Nov. 21

    4th Saturdays: Sept. 26, Oct. 24, Nov. 28

Help Expand BCW's Open Shop Hours!

We’re looking for volunteers to help us expand Open Shop hours and create more opportunities for our community to build, create, and connect. If you’re comfortable in the shop and available to answer occasional questions, this is a great way to support BCW while working on your own projects!

 Volunteer Shift Needed:

  • Wednesday Nights 6:30-9:30PM
  • Saturday Mornings 10am-1pm

    Please complete all 6 modules prior to signing up to observe a class. It should take no longer than a total of 2.5 hours to complete. You can complete it at your pace, but please have it done prior to your first official shift.
