Here's what our current volunteers have to say about volunteering with the BCW...

I continue to volunteer because the teenagers I have been working with are amazing . They catch on to techniques and skills needed to achieve the completion of their projects and it is very rewarding. It is so rewarding for me to see how quickly they catch on and become proficient in using the equipment to get the desired results.

My favorite part of volunteering is seeing students gain confidence with their skills and take ownership over projects. Some students have been coming for two or three years and feel very independent at the Woodshop making their own projects. Seeing their progress is a very exciting part of being able to work with the same students over and over.

I’ve learned a ton from other volunteers and from teaching students! Tools I’d never used, techniques I’d never done, and more.I’ve even started to learn woodturning. From teaching, I’ve also learned how to help students find a balance where they put care into the details of their work but not verge into perfectionism. I love to see students progress semester after semester and year after year.

I've got sawdust in my veins at this point! Being in an environment where I can just be a total wood nerd and share knowledge together with the other participants and volunteers is the coolest thing!I am also constantly impressed and inspired by the unbridled creativity that people bring into the shop. It makes me think about ways to solve problems that wouldn't normally occur to me otherwise.
