Announcement of the March Madness fundraiser winners and a HUGE thank you to all who participated:
- Durham Bulls Tickets go to Thursday 1:00-3:00pm class with a total of $7,105
- Top Fundraiser: Paul Brown (volunteer) with a total of $5,100
- Most donors: Isaac Amann (student) with a total of 9 people donating to his campaign for a total of $290.
- Lone Ranger: Brad Broge (volunteer-only volunteer to sign up in volunteer team and raise $715 on his own.)
Paul and Brad can come to Andrea's office to pick up their prizes.

Volunteer Highlight: Rita Lewitt
Rita Lewitt, a retired IT professional who has been woodworking since she was seven. Since joining the woodshop in January 2023, she has enjoyed sharing her passion for the craft and has specifically valued learning how to teach children safely. Rita finds it rewarding to watch students grow in confidence with each project and is particularly excited about the new curriculum and student achievement pins this year.

Youth Program Volunteers
Youth Program Updates
- Start talking with your students about the Charcuterie Board Competition. They have appx 8 weeks to complete their board. I would love to have 15-20 boards in the competition this year, so let's really talk it up!
- Woodturning Symposium this summer: we have 10 free youth slots, so please recommend to me who you would like to see attend the symposium out of your woodturning students. The BCW will have a strong presence at the symposium, and we look forward to seeing many of you there! Info about the symposium is here. https://www.aawsymposium.org/
- I will be looking for paid summer camp staff. If you are interested in making a little extra income this summer and can commit to 40 hours a week for up to 7 weeks, please reach out to me (Andrea). To review the job description, please click here.

Silent Auction
Our annual silent auction is approaching! (Save the date May 17 4-7) We are looking for donations towards our silent auction. Would you like to make something beautiful, creative, and wooden? Or not wooden.. We also have ideas on different themed baskets/groupings if you want to make or acquire things that go along with those themes (pets, garden, kitchen, etc). Please let Brian or Andrea know if you have something you want to donate.

Upcoming Important Dates
- March 28 - Official Mural Reveal Join Durham's Chamber of Commerce and BCW staff to officially recognize the completion of our beautiful mural with a ribbon cutting ceremony! HUGE thanks to volunteer Anushka for all her incredible work on this newest landmark in East Durham. Alongside this celebration will be a yard sale of tools and supplies, live music, a caricature artist, and a food truck!
- March 30-April 3 NO BCW YOUTH PROGRAMS. Youth programs on pause for Spring Break.
- April 23 - Panelist event for students grades 10th-12th. More info coming soon!
- Week of May 11th is the last week of classes for the spring semester.
- May 17 4-7pm - 3rd Annual Springboard Our Springboard event this year is going to be AWESOME! It is at the Rickhouse in Downtown Durham. We will have live music, a charcuterie board competition, a silent auction, woodturning demonstrations, food and drinks, a photo booth. We will honor our FIRST ever graduates as well as recognize our incredible volunteers. This will truly be the year to attend!. We want to celebrate year 5 BIG! You don't want to miss this! Registrations will open soon.

Wild Edge Woodcraftis a local sawmill that experienced a devastating fire a few weeks back. If I have learned anything these past 5 years, I have learned that woodworkers are generous and support one another!
