Liberty Arts and the Bull City Woodshop return with our spookiest collaboration yet! Visit both non profit organizations for a two part workshop in which students will make a glass ghost and wooden coffin (which doubles as a catch-all tray)! There are two workshop sessions available for this class.
Students will start their journey in the glass hot shop at Liberty Arts Studio (918 Pearl Street) and then head over to the Bull City Woodshop (1912 E Pettigrew) for the woodworking portion. Experience these two art mediums and elevate your Halloween Decor! Tea lights are INCLUDED with purchase!
Make Your Own Ghost
Working with an experienced glass blower, the student will learn hands-on how to apply different colors to molten glass, how to shape the semi-molten form and finally to inflate the glass into a shape that will subsequently become the ghost.
Eyes and mouth will be applied and the piece will be transferred to a punty where the final ghost form will be shaped. After "spinning" the ghost to its final form, it will be placed in our annealer where it will be slowly cooled to room temperature and will be ready for pickup the following week.
Please don't wear loose-fitting clothes for the hands-on exercise. Natural fiber (not synthetic) clothes are best and closed toe shoes are required. Blow pipes will be sterilized between each use. Age Limit: 14 years old, minimum.
Make Your Own Coffin Tray
Participants will make their own walnut coffin-shaped catch-all, approximately 12" x 7" x 1" thick.
Participants will start with 2 prepared walnut blank and work through shaping it into a coffin-style catch-all. Along the way, they’ll get hands-on experience learning and using bandsaw, scroll saw, hand drills, and sanding tools. We’ll finish by cleaning up the edges, sanding everything smooth, pyrography and applying a finish before pairing it with their glass ghost.
Participants will also have plenty of room to make the project their own. They can add as much wood burning and decoration to their coffin as they’d like, so each finished piece can have its own look and personality.

Closed-toe shoes are required. Long hair must be tied back, and loose clothing or jewelry should be secured before working with tools. Anyone under 18 must have a parent or guardian present for the full session. NO CROCS.
